We're Not Alone

"The angel of the Lord
encamps all around those
who fear Him(God),
And delivers them. Psalm 34:7

Ever wonder what it means in the Bible when its mentions: 'to fear God'?
Does it mean to be scared of God?
To be afraid of Him because He might just decide to snuff you out?

The Bible shows that the only people that need to be scared of Him are the ones who defy Him-whether they do it passivley or aggressively.

The book of Proverbs has lots to say about the 'fear of the Lord'.

Proverbs 1:7 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

Proverbs 8:13 says, "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate."

Proverbs 9:10,11 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.

Proverbs 10:27--"The fear of the Lord prolongs days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened."

Proverbs 14:27--"The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to avoid the snares of death."

Proverbs 15:33--" The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility."

Proverbs 19:23--"The fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; he will not be visited with evil."

These are just some of the Bible's references to the 'fear of the Lord".

It shows us that to fear God, is to hate what is evil. In doing that we honor Him because He is so Holy and cannot bear any kind of wickedness. That's why Jesus had to not just pay for our sin, but the Bible says He became sin for us, having become the curse(Galations 3:13)so that we could be redeemed, justified, able to stand in God's Holy presence.

ThankYou Father God for making it clear- what evil is- in Your Word the Bible. Help us as we read Your Word, to gain a reverence for You and all that Your say. May we walk in the fear of the Lord, gaining knowledge and wisdom, adding length and satisfaction to our lives as we live to honor you. In Jesus' name, amen.
